The canton of Geneva has opened a procedure once morest the RTS, considering that the public media has not respected its obligations by renting part of its building to a company. It did not wait for the formal approval of the Geneva Council of State, according to its president.

“It is contrary to the surface right signed with the canton, which provides him with free public land for his activities”, specifies Antonio Hodgers in an interview broadcast Monday by the Tribune de Genève and 24 Heures.

He also notes that the lease was concluded with a multinational communication company, which has no connection with the activities of the public radio-television of French-speaking Switzerland or the media, another required condition.

The RTS finances “hazardous investments”, estimates Mr. Hodgers. It renovated “at great expense” its tower “to then partially divest it and build a new center in Écublens” (VD), where it will move its newsrooms to a new building estimated at 120 million francs. “As it seeks money, the management acts as a real estate speculator,” he adds.

According to Mr. Hodgers, the Council of State told RTS not to sign the contract with the multinational communication company, but it did so “behind our backs”. “This unfair behavior is problematic,” he says. He denounces an “unacceptable” behavior from an ethical point of view.
