Algeria-Russia Space Cooperation: Exploring New Horizons in Space Technologies and Orbital Station Creation

Algerian Head of State Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s recent visit to Russia was punctuated by the signing of several bilateral agreements between the two countries. Among these agreements is that of Algerian-Russian cooperation in the field of exploration and use of space for peaceful purposes. An agreement that will allow Algeria to chart its course in the field of space technologies.

As soon as the space cooperation agreement was signed, the two countries had already agreed to the implementation of its content. Indeed, the Director General of the Russian Space Agency (ROSCOSMOS), Yuri Borisov, paid a visit to Algeria last week where he met the Director General of the Algerian Space Agency (ASAL), Azzedine Oussedik.

The meeting was an opportunity for the two parties to present their respective space programs and to exchange their points of view on the methods and axes of bilateral cooperation. In a statement to the press, the head of the Russian space agency said that the Algerian space program for 2040 “allows us to open a new page of practical cooperation between Russia and Algeria in the space domain”.

Russia invites Algeria to take part in the creation of an orbital station

As part of this agreement, Russia invites Algeria to take part in the creation of a Russian orbital station. This is reported by the Interfax news agency, citing the head of the Russian Space Agency, Yuri Borisov. “Russia offers African countries, including Algeria and Egypt, to participate in the creation of a Russian orbital station,” said the head of ROSCOSMOS following a meeting Friday with Russian President Vladimir Cheese fries.

“We talked regarding the creation of multi-satellite orbital constellations, launch services, inhabited space, I offered participation in the Russian orbital station, and a full-fledged one, not only for the training of cosmonauts, but until the construction of national modules, ”says the Russian official. He also said that countries in Asia and Africa, including China and India, are showing serious interest in Russian plasma engines.

The head of the Russian space agency affirmed that his country has one of the world’s best developments in terms of plasma thrusters. “We have developed, perhaps, one of the best skills in the world in the creation of such engines [à plasma]. The interest in these engines is very serious in the countries of Asia, China, India, Africa”, he underlined.
