It didn’t take long to see a Tricolore shine on the Tour de France 2023. Already in full light during the first stage, Victor Lafay beat all the favorites in San Sebastian, Sunday July 2, on the occasion of the 2nd stage. The 27-year-old Frenchman made his punch speak by doing the kilometer. After making the holeshot, he was able to get his arms up on the lines despite Wout van Aert’s cannonball return.

This is a memorable victory for Cofidis, who had not won on the Grande Boucle for 15 years and Sylvain Chavanel in Montluçon. Satisfaction also for Tadej Pogacar (UAE) who took 12 seconds of bonuses (4 by finishing 3rd, 8 by taking the lead on the Jaizkibel climb). The Slovenian is 2nd in the general classification, behind his teammate Adam Yates, still yellow jersey. His main competitor, Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) is already 11 seconds behind.
