The new competition car of the student group “TUfast Eco” should build on past successes and set new standards for electric cars in terms of efficiency. Compared to its predecessor, the new model is characterized by lower weight, increased efficiency of individual components and significantly reduced air resistance. In May 2023, the vehicle will compete with other student groups from Europe at the Shell Eco Marathon.
Under the team name “TUfast Eco”, the student initiative is taking part in international competitions for the twentieth time this year. The “muc023” electric car that has just been presented, which at around 65 kilograms is a full ten kilograms lighter than its predecessor, is said to guarantee top rankings this year at the Shell Eco Marathon. This is made possible, among other things, by adjustments to the body and almost 40 percent lighter wheel suspensions. The new permanently excited synchronous motors run up to five percent more efficiently on the test bench than the types previously used. Clad front wheel arches and an adapted rear end help to achieve a drag coefficient of just 0.13, around 20 percent lower than the 2022 model. (awm)
