Last Wednesday, Angela, a worker at the Orange County Animal Shelter in Florida, shared a video on her TikTok channel that is particularly difficult for dog lovers to watch. This was also reported by the news portal Insider.
In it, she shared the story of Brandon, a 14-year-old senior male who was abandoned by his owner at the overcrowded shelter.
After Angela expressed concerns regarding Brandon’s acceptance because the home with over 100 other dogs just wouldn’t be a place for an older dog who needs a lot of rest, his owner’s only response was, “I don’t care.”

The woman was also cold regarding the reference to foster homes for senior dogs. According to the animal shelter employee, she kept walking up and down the aisles between the many kennels, but: “The answer remained the same: ‘I don’t care.'”
They were to be the last words Brandon would hear from his owner. The male didn’t get a proper farewell.
The chances that he will be adopted quickly are slim, because most prospective buyers are looking for puppies or young dogs. Seniors are among the last to find new families and among the first to be euthanized in the United States.

It is not known why his owner gave up their dog following 14 years, but Brandon does not appear to have any serious health problems. She is said to have told Angela that she “just doesn’t want him anymore”.
Commenting on Brandon’s tragic case, the shelter worker said, “This is a reminder to everyone that dogs are a lifelong commitment.”
