China has urged the Netherlands not to abuse export control measures on semiconductor products, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said on Saturday.
The spokesperson made the remarks in response to a media question that the Dutch government had announced restrictions on exports of certain semiconductor equipment, including lithography machines.
The spokesperson said the two countries have communicated frequently on this issue at different levels. However, the Dutch side still placed semiconductor equipment in the new restrictions, and so China presented its dissatisfaction.
In recent years, the United States, with the objective of maintaining its global hegemony, has continuously generalized the concept of national security, abused export control measures, and even undermined the interests of its allies, coerced and courted another country to suppress and contain Chinese semiconductors, and artificially promoted industrial decoupling and chain breaking, the spokesperson said.
These acts have seriously damaged the development of the global semiconductor industry, and China firmly opposes them.
The spokesperson said the Dutch side should start by taking into consideration the defense of international economic and trade rules as well as the situation of China-Netherlands economic and trade cooperation, and should adhere to market principles. and the spirit of contract, while avoiding measures that might hamper the smooth cooperation and development of the semiconductor industry of the two countries.
China urges the Dutch side to earnestly uphold the common interests of Chinese and Dutch companies and the two sides, and maintain the stability of semiconductor industrial and supply chains in the world, the spokesperson added.
