Expanding Horizons at the Gare Sud Sector: Circus Arts, Climbing, and Mobility

The project is still in its infancy, but the ambitions are there. Among the future tenants of premises in the area, there is the Circosphere circus school. She will very soon be moving into a hangar six to seven times larger than her current workplace. This should allow Circosphere to broaden its horizons: “We want to create a center for circus arts, with dance, theater, in addition to what we already offer”, explains Ana Radic, director of the structure.

BlocUp thinks bigger

Another local actor who sees bigger: the Phil Steulet association, which manages the BlocUp climbing room, installed on the former SAFED site since 2019. François Steulet chairs the association and hopes to be able to develop its activities: “We imagine a room 20 meters high, which would attract people from the Jura and elsewhere. The advantage of this South Station area is that we are right next to the station. Climbers might come by train. If the project is still only a dream, François Steulet hopes to quickly engage in discussions with the Municipality. In the meantime, he is looking forward to meeting his future neighbors in the “leisure center”, namely Circosphere, mentioned above, but also a fitness room.

A center dedicated to mobility

But the “leisure center” is only one space among others: the Municipality hopes to develop several areas in its South Station sector. One of them will be dedicated to innovative companies, another to mobility, for example. And it is in this last space that Caritas Jura might enter the scene: “We want to set up our bike workshop here (note: currently at Communance). Cyclists can have their bikes serviced there. And we also want to create a southern branch at the bike station,” reveals Philippe Wattenhoffer, project manager at Caritas Jura. The Gare Sud sector is destined to evolve; it is in any case the goal of its tenants – current and future – and of the Municipality.
