Firefighters from Chile reported this Saturday the discovery of the lifeless body of Robinson Altamirano, 37 years old, volunteer of the Second Company of Linares whose trace was lost eight days ago in the midst of the rescue of people affected by the frontal system and floods that occurred in the Maule Region.

The flagrancy chief prosecutor, Andres Gaete, reported that around 11:50 a.m. this Saturday, officials from the Investigative Police found the body of the missing firefighter as a result of the storm that hit our region.

Altamirano was found “On the south bank of the Ancoa River, approximately 300 to 400 meters from the place of disappearance”where the arrival of the Legal Medical Service is now expected for the removal of the body and subsequent autopsy, while the Homicide Brigade carries out proceedings at the scene.

The finding was officially confirmed by the Fire Superintendent, Marcelo Retamal, who pointed out that “at the moment we are with the family” and that the first thing that was done “was to inform them“, stressing that the search was carried out “everywhere”.

“We knew we were going to find him, this is a long and tiring process, but that was our goal. However, we will continue working to find Don Pedro (the other missing volunteer).”

Mario Meza, mayor of Linares, conveyed his condolences to the firefighter’s family and stated that “this fact is absolutely unfortunate not only for them, but also for the Linares Fire Department and the country.”

“On behalf of the Municipal Council, my family and the entire city, first of all we wish Robinson to rest in peace: Linares has a new martyr, he will be given a proper Christian burial,” said the community chief, noting that the city will be in official mourning for three days from this Saturday.
