Unique Porsche at a record price: Cult star expands its Porsche collection – Another impressive sports car from Stuttgart is now owned by a well-known US comedian. Last year, Porsche presented a vehicle that is reminiscent of its predecessors, but is still unique. The much-anticipated auction took place in June, revealing the car’s lucky new owner.

At first it seemed to be anything but an auction record: a 1998 Type 996 911 Carrera that wasn’t in the best condition. However, in close cooperation with the Porsche Club of America, the car manufacturer’s largest fan club, this vehicle was turned into a valuable one-off. For many years, the car eked out an unknown location in the US state of Virginia until it was finally completely restored by Porsche in Stuttgart.

Unique restoration with nostalgic details

During the restoration, various elements of the top-of-the-line GT3 were installed, such as the chassis, the brakes and the engine with an impressive 381 hp. In addition, the car received the distinctive “ducktail” rear spoiler of the legendary 911 Carrera RS 2.7 from 1972. Another highlight is the “double-bubble” roof with two bulges, which is reminiscent of the glory days of racing and offers sufficient space for drivers and co-driver including helmets.

In order to give the authentic look of past Porsche models, the car also received the characteristic Fuchs rims and houndstooth check patterns on the seats. A special paint finish with racing stripes and numerous other lovely details complete the overall picture. Nothing was left to chance in this project, which is why Porsche decided to produce two vehicles at the same time.

One was extensively tested and then disassembled, leaving only the other. Because the goal was to create a truly unique piece. The result is a Porsche that picks up many elements of its predecessor models, but stands out in its uniqueness.

Record-breaking auction and a known buyer

Collectors of unique vehicles are often willing to pay large sums of money for their passion. This was also evident at the June 10 auction in Atlanta, Georgia. The highest bid of around 1.3 million US dollars (1.2 million euros) was made by an initially unknown collector, who finally won the bid.

Now it has been revealed who this mysterious collector is: 69-year-old comedian and die-hard Porsche fan Jerry Seinfeld.

His TV series “Seinfeld” (1989-1998) is still one of the most successful in the world and brought great wealth to its creator. Seinfeld already owns an impressive collection of around 150 vehicles, including several dozen of the most valuable Porsche models.

Remarkably, a 996 was previously not part of his collection. He was able to receive his new car at an exclusive Porsche collectors’ event in Palm Springs, California. He then set off, covering a distance of around 200 kilometers to Los Angeles.
