Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso scored points in Saturday’s sprint at Spielberg, finishing fourth and fifth. Pilots of Aston Martin are pleased with the result and expect to build on the success in Sunday’s race.
Lance Stroll (4th): “There is no point in discussing the sprint. The big news today is the death of Dilano van’t Hoff at Spa. My thoughts are with him and his family.
This turn needs to be changed, it has claimed the lives of two young talented riders in the last five years, and we must not be silent.
As for the sprint, we had a high race pace, and I’m happy with my first lap. In the course of the distance, it was important to monitor the condition of the tires on the drying track. The team developed the right strategy, and we executed it perfectly. The fourth and fifth positions are a good result, and tomorrow we will once more attack with all our might.”
Fernando Alonso (5th): “I am glad that our team has earned so many points today – three more than Ferrari, and eight more than Mercedes. Good Saturday for the team. I had a fun and fair fight with Lance – only on the last lap we dangerously approached him in the eighth turn.
We thought regarding switching to slicks, but there were seven laps to go, and we felt that we were ahead of the slick pursuers enough to keep our positions. Of course, the fact that Nico Hulkenberg made a pit stop and finished just a second behind me says a lot, but we still made the right decision.
I hope we get more points tomorrow. The weather should be better, but I’ll start seventh – let’s see what we can do. I set myself the task of finishing in the top five.
Sad news came from Spa. My thoughts are with those close to Dilano. On some fast tracks visibility is very low in the rain and we can’t let a tragedy like this happen once more.”
