Younion union must represent workers’ demands for better working conditions and more staff and not cover misconduct by the SPÖ Vienna
Vienna (OTS) – The lack of support from the Younion trade union for yesterday’s warning strike by the doctors in the central emergency room in Ottakring (ZNA) caused the free spokesman for public service, NAbg. Werner Herbert, for criticism and lack of understanding. “This shows once once more that social democracy likes to preach water while drinking wine. Only at the recently held trade union conference of the Austrian Trade Union Confederation (ÖGB) did the SPÖ call for class warfare and SPÖ chairman Babler declared social democracy the patron saint of the ‘lower’ in the fight for their rights once morest the ‘upper’. But at the first opportunity to prove this, the SPÖ falls down and leads its own refusal to fight ad absurdum. Apparently, a trade union dispute between the ÖGB and the SPÖ-led municipality of Vienna does not fit into the social democratic picture. Not only the hospital and nursing staff, whose rights and interests are being sacrificed to political calculations, are left behind, but above all the population, who rightly expect an immediate and lasting improvement in the currently dramatically poor supply situation in the hospital system to secure their medical care may.
“The irresponsible political activities of the SPÖ and the ÖGB are at the expense of the health of the citizens. If Babler is serious regarding a single word of his speech last week, he is committed to ensuring that the union fulfills its actual task and obligation: namely to represent the demands of the workers for better working conditions and more staff and not the political misconduct of the SPÖ Vienna at the expense of the health care of our citizens, ”concludes Herbert.
