Hulkenberg in front of the Ferraris
A very interesting SQ3 session has just ended.
Sure, there was no way around Max Verstappen, but behind it it was quite interesting. Lando Norris was a strong third, Nico Hülkenberg even fourth on the medium tire. However, he is being investigated for unsafe release in SQ2, he might still lose this place later.
Bitter for Ferrari, Leclerc and Sainz came in fifth and sixth respectively behind the Ferrari customer team.
We keep an eye on the situation around Hülkenberg for you!

Russell is out too!
Already at the end of SQ1 George Russell reported to the Mercedes command post that his hydraulics had given up. This was also confirmed, Russell might not take part in SQ2 because the handlebars had to be changed for it.
Nico Hülkenberg had a moment of shock when driving out of the pits, he ran over his tire on the left rear and took off briefly. Unsafe release is noted and determined following the shootout.
Track limits were an issue once more in this session. This time it was Yuki Tsunoda who lost his lap due to track limits at turn ten.
Out are Alex Albon, Pierre Gasly, Yuki Tsunoda, Nyck de Vries and George Russell.
Who gets the pole for the sprint?

Tracklimits, Tracklimits, Tracklimits
And once more the track limits in turns nine and ten are a big problem. First victim: Lewis Hamilton!
His Mercedes is restless as usual, he loses the rear slightly in turn ten and thus violates the track limits. The result: out in SQ1 and starting from 18th place.
Also out: Zhou, Piastri, Sargeant and Bottas.

No punishment for Sainz
A perceptive channel member dThe Formula1.de YouTube channel is yesterday in the analysis video noticed that Carlos Sainz was already sipping water before stepping on the scale yesterday following qualifying in the top 3 cooldown area.
He remembered the case of Markus Ekström, who was disqualified in the DTM at the Norisring in 2013 because his father and supervisor tipped two bottles of mineral water into his pockets so as not to fall below the minimum weight. Same thing saw the channel member here too, wasn’t in the same way, but at least similar.
Stefan Ehlen then went through the sporting regulations and summarized for you in an article why it was okay that Carlos Sainz took a sip from the bottle yesterday before stepping on the scales.

McLaren hearing on Sunday
Yesterday I informed you here in the Formula 1 live ticker that McLaren is aiming for the “Right to Review” due to the five-second penalty once morest Lando Norris at the Canadian Grand Prix, i.e. a potential hearing for a renegotiation and withdrawal this punishment.
The stewards have now announced the date for the first hearing. Tomorrow morning, on Sunday, at 9:30 a.m., a McLaren team leader will have to report to the stewards in order to present the necessary, new and conclusive evidence as a first step, which would trigger the “Right to Review” in the first place.
Should this evidence be sufficient and the stewards decide that the appeal is admissible, there would be a “review” hearing, where the penalty would be reversed if necessary. For this, however, sufficient reliable material must be available in the first part of the hearing so that the second hearing can take place at all. When this hearing would be is not known and has yet to be determined.
So tomorrow morning things will get exciting for McLaren and Lando Norris before the race has even started. You will of course be informed directly here if there is a result and the stewards grant the “Right to Review”.

Verstappen and Hamilton in the super team?
Yesterday, our editor-in-chief Christian Nimmervoll caused a nice thought game with a very exciting question in the team manager press conference:
How regarding Lewis Hamilton going to Red Bull and forming the ultimate super team with Max Verstappen?
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner answered that very wittily. In an article, Nimmervoll also collected other votes for this idea, including from Dr. Helmut Marko (Red Bull Motorsport Consultant) and Toto Wolff (Mercedes Team Principal).
Is the super team possible? Read it yourself!

AD: As a VIP to the DTM in Hockenheim? Goes!
Before things really get going in Formula 1, I have a recommendation for all motorsport fans who want an exclusive experience for the DTM at the Hockenheimring from October 20th. until 22.10.2023 for you.
For as little as 240 euros you can enjoy the “Viplight Race Salon” at the Hotel Motodrom on Sunday. There is a special parking space, tickets from the main grandstand including paddock access, a wide selection of drinks and food and a reserved seat in the saloon.
But there is an even more exclusive way.
Because from just 360 euros you get the complete VIP experience on the upper tier of the south stand. There is almost no better view of the action. But that’s not all, because you get VIP parking, paddock access, first-class catering and if you want it really exquisite, even a single box for your friends and yourself.

The mode on Saturday
Since this season, the decision has been made to completely decouple the sprint, including its own qualification, the so-called sprint shootout, from the rest of the weekend and to make Saturday a sprint day, also in Spielberg.
From 12 p.m. the sprint shootout starts and this is how the mode looks like:
SQ1, 12 minutes, tire specification: medium (new)
SQ2, 10 minutes, tire specification: medium (new)
SQ3: 8 minutes, tire specification: soft (but it doesn’t have to be a new sentence anymore, that was changed following the almost farce in Baku!)
If it rains as expected, the teams will get free choice of tires Intermediate/Full Wet. Another set of intermediates was also approved by the race control for the sprint in the followingnoon.
The last five drivers of each session are eliminated, in the end the top 10 stay as usual, who decide the pole for the sprint among themselves. This pole does not count as pole position in the statistics, it remains the one that was clinched on Friday.
At 4:30 p.m., the F1 Sprint continues, the shortened race over 24 laps or 60 minutes. The race distance is around 100 kilometers, the realistic race time is around 30 minutes, so it’s going really fast. Points are awarded for the first eight: 8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1.
Who will take victory in this exciting format and how will it go in the rain? I’m really keen on it!

The Friday in the analysis
Yesterday evening, Stefan Ehlen, live on site at the Red Bull Ring, our data expert Kevin Hermann and I analyzed Friday’s qualifying on the Formula1.de YouTube channel accepted.
Of course we talked regarding the annoying track limits, a total of 47 times a lap was denied. How will it be just today?
Then it was regarding the situation at Red Bull and AlphaTauri in relation to the second drivers Sergio Perez and Nyck de Vries, why Ferrari was so close to Max Verstappen and lots of other topics.
Feel free to take a look once more before the shootout continues at 12 p.m.
Track limit AMAZING in the qualification! Driver too stupid or rules wrong?
