After Assassin’s Creed Mirage, true-false remake of the first opus of the license, Ubisoft would be ready to bet once once more on one of the previous parts of the saga. This time as a total remake.
Assassin’s Creed and Ubisoft’s new strategy
Assassin’s Creed is unquestionably the most popular license from Ubisoft. The French studio sells several million copies of each opus and has been able to reinvent the license with more or less brilliance over the years. From Assassin’s Creed Originsthe saga has taken an RPG turn to offer an open world experience with an ever larger map and a wide choice of objectives to accomplish.
But now, the studio seems to want to backtrack and satisfy long-time fans, at least for a while. The next installment in the saga, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, is intended to be closer to the initial formula. A reduced game arena, a more condensed narrative, gameplay centered on infiltration… Mirage is a real return to basics, even a kind of concealed remake of the very first game with Altaïr.
However, this return to basics is not definitive. We remind you that several future titles (Assassin’s Creed JadeCodename Red) will offer a formula similar to the most recent opuses.
However, on the sidelines of these two directions, Ubisoft might also offer pure and hard remakes of old opuses. One of the former Assassin’s Creed is precisely concerned by this rumor.
Pirates in the spotlight of the first real AC remake?
The information comes from my citywhich states that a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV : Black Flag would be in the pipes of Ubisot according to “two sources close to the plans” of the studio. Kotaku further claims that the project is still “in the very early stages of development” and wouldn’t be coming for years.
According to these sources, Ubisoft Singapore, which is still working on the tumultuous Skull and Boneswould be heavily involved in the development of this remake in order to drastically modernize the navigation mechanics of the original game.
As a reminder, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag put us in the shoes of Edward Kenway, a pirate working on the Caribbean seas. When it was released in 2013, the software greatly deepened the navigation and naval battle system introduced in Assassin’s Creed IIIreleased a year earlier.
The outcome of this project might potentially depend on the future of Skull and Bones. Ubisoft’s “cursed” game has not yet been approached and has experienced many difficulties since its very first presentation in 2017. A beta is already scheduled for August 25 to 28. A possible success might comfort the studio in the idea of bringing pirates up to date. Case to follow!
