In dialogue with Mañanas Blu, David Vélez from Nu Bank, the richest man in Colombia, highlighted the importance of technology and innovation in the financial sector, for which he pointed out that programmers are increasingly needed. What should you study according to David Vélez?
David, who is also the founder and president of Nubank, commented: “You have to study programming, there are not enough programmerss. When you look at the numbers we are still graduating 10 times more lawyers than programmers. That is completely inconsistent with what is coming, with the next five or ten years in Colombia.”

The key is to study programming
The founder of Nubank reiterated that it is necessary for the new generation of Colombians to focus their future on studying technology and programming, in order to actively participate in the reinvention of the economy.
“I have nothing once morest lawyers or accountants, but when you see where this economy is going to reinvent all these industries, definitely the workforce, the key piece of the gear of the new economy are the system programmers and we have very few in Colombia and Latin America,” said David Vélez.
Faced with this need, Vélez, who took the position from Luis Carlos Sarmiento Angulo as the richest man in Colombia, concluded by noting that: “There is a deficit of almost a million programmers in Latin America from companies like us and others that need these people, paying very high salaries and we cannot find them”.

On the other hand, the founder of Nubank also highlighted the importance of financial education and that consumers are informed regarding the options available to them.
It should be noted that Forbes magazine estimated the fortune of the CEO of the Nubank bank to be approximately US$7,000 million, above Luis Carlos Sarmiento Angulo.
Nubank, Nu in Colombia, is one of the largest digital financial services platforms in the world, with around 80 million customers in Brazil, Mexico and Colombia.
