Ten Peruvian universities, between public and private, are best positioned in the QS World Ranking 2024, one of the most important international lists of academic excellence.
The list made by the firma británica Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) implemented three new metrics this year to assess the environmental sustainability, student employability and international research collaboration.
For this one Ranking 2024academic reputation, citations per professor, ratio of professors and students, reputation among employers, proportion of international students and foreign professors were also evaluated.
Ten best Peruvian universities
The Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú leads the list of the ten best in Peru occupying position number 336 out of 1,500 classified, according to the 2024 QS World Ranking. PUCP, likewise, is placed this year in 10th place among the best higher education institutions in Latin America.
This way, PUCP rose 27 positions compared to the previous edition, remaining in first place among the best Peruvian universities for 11 consecutive years.
It is followed by the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM), which obtains the highest score among all public universities in the country. Worldwide, the Dean of America is between positions 901 and 950.
In third place, the National University of Engineering (UNI) and the Peruvian University Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) tied, which are located between positions 951 and 1000.
The Peruvian University of Applied Sciences, the University of Lima and the Universidad del Pacífico continue on the list, positioned between the 1,001 and 1,200 best institutions worldwide.
The top 10 best universities in the country close, the National Agrarian University La Molina, the San Ignacio de Loyola University and the University of Piura, between positions 1201 and 1400.
The Top 10 Latin America
In this new edition, the three most outstanding Latin American universities are the University of Sao Paulo (position 85) from Brazil, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (93) and the Buenos Aires’ University (95) from Argentina.
In fourth place is the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (103 in the overall ranking), followed by the University of Chile (159).
The Latin American top 10 is completed with the Tecnológico de Monterrey (184) from Mexico, Universidad de los Andes (198) from Colombia, State University of Campinas (220) from Brazil, National University of Colombia?(226) and Pontificia Universidad Católica del Peru (336).
What is the best university in the world?
In first place was Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States, which has led the ranking for 12 years. The University of Cambridge (United Kingdom) remains in second place.
The University of Oxford (United Kingdom) ranks third, followed by Harvard and Stanford universities, both from the United States.
