Experts Discuss New Heating Act Amendments: The Way Towards Fair and Renewable Heat

BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – A hearing of experts on the “Heating Act” scheduled for Monday can take place. A so-called formulation aid from the Federal Ministry of Economics was received by the Committee for Climate Protection and Energy on Friday. In these amendments, the ministry spells out the innovations agreed by the traffic light groups SPD, Greens and FDP.

“The FDP parliamentary group checked the formulation aid today and approved it as a basis for consultation for the expert hearing on Monday,” said parliamentary group leader Christian Dürr of the German Press Agency in Berlin. The FDP parliamentary group had particularly strong reservations regarding the original draft law by Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) and Construction Minister Klara Geywitz (SPD).

Committee chairman Klaus Ernst (left) wrote on Twitter that the documents came around noon. Due to the majority in the committee, he was forced to invite to this hearing on Monday. “The period is too short. A disregard for Parliament! Insufficient preparation possible.” The opposition strongly criticizes the unusual procedure with short deadlines and multiple renegotiations between the traffic light partners.

The Greens parliamentary group deputies Julia Verlinden and Andreas Audretsch explained: “The combined amendments to the Building Energy Act have now been sent to the committee. We are pleased that the way is clear for further proceedings and thus for fair and renewable heat.” The transition will be designed socially. “We are keeping our promise and are increasing subsidies for climate-neutral heat to up to 70 percent.”

FDP representative Dürr emphasized: “Nobody has to remove their gas heating system and they can repair it at any time.” In addition, the state will make advance payments and submit a municipal heating plan. “Only when it is clear what heating options a municipality has do the specifications apply – and even then it will be possible to install a convertible gas or oil heating system.”

After a long struggle, the law is to be passed by the Bundestag in the coming week./hrz/DP/jha
