The world’s smallest bag sells for a fantastic price. The micro bag measuring 657 x 222 x 700 micrometers was sold through an online auction for USD 63,750 or around IDR 960 million.

The online auction is held by Joopiter, one of the auction agencies founded by Pharrell Williams. The musician and music producer now fills the position of creative director of the Louis Vuitton menswear collection.

The micro bag, which is smaller than a grain of salt, was first shown to the public in June 2023. It is MSCHF, a brand that released a small version of the fashion item from the Louis Vuitton bag, the OnTheGo totebag model.

It’s so small, the product can only be seen with a microscope so it can’t store anything, not even for fashion. The bag is made of transparent material and is neon green in color.

Even though it was sold at an auction owned by Pharrell Williams, MSCHF Chief Creative Officer, Kevin Wiesner, admitted that he had not asked Louis Vuitton for permission to copy the OnTheGo tote bag design. He chose the bag because it has a simple and iconic box shape and logo.

“We’d rather apologize than ask for permission,” Kevin said.

The creation of the Louis Vuitton micro bag is a form of satire on fashion trends that are now more concerned with style than function. How day by day the size of the bag is getting smaller so that it is no longer functional.
