Discussion regarding bilateral and economic relations as well as the political situation in the Middle East
Vienna (PK) – President of the National Council Wolfgang Sobotka received the Foreign Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in Parliament today. In a joint conversation, he discussed bilateral and economic relations as well as the political situation in the Middle East.
Sobotka initially emphasized the good relationship between Austria and Kuwait. This is also reflected in today’s conclusion of several agreements between Kuwait and Austria. These would aim to expand cooperation in the areas of diplomacy, public health and development cooperation. The President of the National Council agreed with his interlocutor that relationships and personal contact should be further developed. This exchange and cooperation at bilateral and international organization level is very important, especially for small states. Sobotka described the relations between the two countries on an economic level just as well. Numerous Austrian companies, such as the Lower Austrian energy supplier EVN, are active in Kuwait.
The world has changed massively in the past two years, said Sobotka. This can be seen on a personal level but also on the level of increased conflicts. Sobotka asked the Kuwaiti foreign minister regarding his assessment of the political situation in the Middle East. Regarding the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, Sobotka emphasized the importance of steps towards peace and the importance of a two-state solution. (close) pst
