Annual Fees and Taxes for Swimming Pool Ownership: What You Need to Know

Last week, we were answering a question regarding swimming pools. Do you need a permit to build one in your garden?
Well, David has another question for us: once the pool is finished, do we have to pay an annual fee?

It depends on the municipality you live in. The municipal administration can decide whether to impose a tax or not. Most don’t.

But, when this is the case, it can quickly climb.

Here are some examples:

In Tournai, the amount varies according to the size of your swimming pool, from 300 to 700 euros.

In Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve, it takes between 315 and 625 euros.

In Couvin, you have to pay 250 to 500 euros per year.

There is also a tax in Dison, Esneux, Soignies. You must therefore check with your municipality.

A swimming pool, beyond this tax, can quickly become expensive: in maintenance, in water, in equipment, in electricity (especially if it is heated).
So, take all these elements into account in your calculations, before you start.
