Mr. and Mrs. Blanco, you live in Ermatingen on Lake Constance and are currently staying in Zurich for a few weeks. Do you like swimming?
Robert White: What a question for a Cuban who was born in Tunisia and has lived in Lebanon and Spain. We bathe before we are born! (laughs)
Luzandra Blanco: I feel like a fish in water and I won championships as a swimmer in Cuba when I was young. I like the water and I need it.
Have you already taken a dip in Lake Zurich?
Robert White: My dear friend, you are talking to Cubans! Despite the beautiful weather, I have yet to see a Swiss bathing in the cold water. They also prefer to lie in the sun.

Robert White: You are right, but it has to be at least 28 degrees! (laughs)
Roberto and Luzandra BlancoRobert White (86) was born in Tunisia to Cuban folklore and variety artists. He grew up in boarding schools in Lebanon and Spain. He landed his biggest hits in 1972 with the hits “A little fun has to be” and “The Puppeteer of Mexico”. With the “Roberto Blanco Show” he achieved ratings of up to 49 percent on German TV. The entertainer, who was married to a Swiss woman for almost 50 years, has three adult children. In 2013 he married the native Cuban Luzandra Strassburg (46), who is now his manager. The couple lives in Ermatingen in the canton of Thurgau. Roberto Blanco can be seen as an actor in the comedy “Monsieur Claude and his daughters” on weekdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 6 p.m. in Zurich’s Bernhard Theater until July 2, 2023.
However, nowhere else do you seem to feel more in your element than on stage, right?
Robert White: I love entertainment. i love singing I love acting. Of course I might sit around and be pampered all day, but the greatest gift is that I can still work.
What does it mean to you to still look your best?
Robert White: That means the one up there means well by me. I thank him every day that I’m so fit, because you can’t buy genes. They are not available at Coop or Migros! (laughs)

They have become the epitome of good humor and joie de vivre. Where does your positive charisma come from?
Robert White: i am a happy person This is my natural me. I don’t do theatre. why should i be sad I have a happy, beautiful wife by my side and a job that I love and with which I can make others happy.
How did you and your wife actually meet?
Robert White: It was destiny. You won’t believe the story. Luzi, tell it, I love listening to you.
Luzandra Blanco: I was 15 years old and a model when we were preparing for the evening show in “La Maison”, a famous fashion house in Havana, when the rehearsal suddenly stopped. It was said that shooting was taking place with a prominent Cuban abroad who was promoting his homeland. I only saw him from behind, but heard his extraordinary voice.
When I traveled to Germany a few years later to learn the language, I recognized her in a TV show. That’s how I knew who he was when I was asked to identify photos of famous Germans in an exam. Embarrassingly, I didn’t recognize Helmut Kohl! (laughs)

When did you finally meet?
Luzandra Blanco: Twelve years ago I was invited to a boxing match in Cologne. The limousine service picked me up first and then Roberto. When he saw me, he asked, “So who are you?” I replied that I was one of the sponsors. “Are you okay if we share the limousine?” He looked at me and laughed, “I don’t mind…”
Was it love at first sight?
Robert White: Do not exaggerate! (laughs) We just exchanged phone numbers and then texted each other over and over once more.
Luzandra Blanco: We were both still married but living apart.

You are not only Roberto’s partner, but also his manager. How do you manage this balancing act?
Luzandra Blanco: There has to be a clear separation. At work we focus on the profession and following work we enjoy our private life. Most of the time we succeed, but sometimes I have to fight back when Roberto insists that I write an e-mail on Sunday so that he can finish the matter on his mind more quickly.
Which one of you is more jealous?
Robert White: No one. We trust each other one hundred percent. Everyone had a life before we found each other. Why should we ruin our love by distrust? Look how pretty and well dressed Luzi is! So it’s understandable when other men flirt with her.
Luzandra Blanco: And I realize that I’m with a person who is very famous, loved very much, and is admired or desired by many women. I have to be able to deal with that. Sometimes I say to myself: “Roberto doesn’t belong to me. In fact, it belongs to the general public.”

Did you know Tina Turner?
Robert White: Of course, very well. She was a great woman. I did TV with her in Germany and I’m so sorry she had to leave way too soon. I wish she might have lived in her beautiful house on Lake Zurich until her 100th birthday.

You are currently amusing people in the play “Monsieur Claude and his Daughters”. How did that happen?
Robert White: I have already played the role of André in Berlin in the adaptation of the second part of the cinema hit and was engaged by the Bernhard Theater for the first part. Don’t forget that acting was the beginning of my career.
How well did you know Switzerland before you moved to Ermatingen?
Robert White: I got my driver’s license in Lausanne when I was 18, later lived in Feldmeilen, then in Zurich. We stay in Ermatingen when we need rest and time for ourselves. However, I rarely stay there for long because there is still so much in the world that I would like to show Luzi.
