Surrounded by summer sports, ski jumpers also get a chance at the European Games in Poland. And from a Swiss point of view it was successful: Gregor Deschwanden secured the bronze medal in the normal hill jumping event in Zakopane.

The 32-year-old from Lucerne was in second place following the first round, but fell behind Jan Hörl with his second jump. Together with gold winner Daniel Tschofenig, he celebrated an Austrian double victory. The second Swiss Killian Peier classified himself in 20th place.

Fourth Medal for Christians

The Swiss shooters continue to ride the wave of success. In the three-position rifle 50 m match, Nina Christen, Sarina Hitz and Chiara Leone won the silver medal. After the trio had won the qualification, the team from Norway had to admit defeat in the final.

After three gold medals (individual, mixed and team), it was Christen’s fourth medal win at the European Games.

The Swiss epee fencers had to settle for the thankless 4th place, just like last year. In Kraków, Poland, the Swiss quartet with Pauline Brunner, the sisters Aurore and Angeline Favre and Noemi Moeschlin lost the battle for bronze at the European Championships once morest Italy by 33:37.

The Swiss women’s last team medal was in 2009. The men’s epee team competition takes place on Friday.

Beach soccer national team in the semi-finals

The Swiss national beach soccer team lost the third group game once morest Italy 3:5, but still qualified for the semi-finals and is therefore playing for the medals.

In the meantime, the national team was 4-1 behind the Italians and was close to being eliminated from the tournament. Thanks to a willful effort in the last third, Angelo Schirinzi’s team scored the two decisive (consecutive) goals that were enough to qualify for the semi-finals. In the semifinals on Friday, Switzerland will meet Portugal, and Italy will then meet Spain.
