A new update that should allow the group’s electric cars to support third-party applications suggests the idea of an “App Store” for Elon Musk’s brand, an idea that had not been considered since 2019.
Tesla already allows its customers to consult various applications such as Netflix or Disney+, or to play several video games (when the car is stationary, of course), but the brand’s cars did not yet allow install third-party applications there, even if the idea had already been mentioned several times by the brand.
What Tesla lacked was a real development kit for applications, even if the brand already had a basic API that only allowed access to a few basic functionalities. Without this, it is difficult for apps to have access to customer data, and therefore to be able to function.
If Tesla had already considered a system that would allow you to connect your smartphone with your car, the company quickly abandoned the idea.
The idea of an app store had not been mentioned by the brand since 2019, even if the rumors continue to swirl. But with this new change which might be a good first step in the matter, there is hope, even if nothing is confirmed on this subject yet.
