After another night of riots triggered by the death of young Nahel, the public prosecutor of Nanterre, Pascal Prache, announced on Thursday the opening of a judicial inquiry. He also requested the remand in custody of the police officer responsible for the fatal shooting.
For his part, Emmanuel Macron had convened this Thursday an interministerial crisis unit (CIC) at the Ministry of the Interior. At the end of this meeting, the triggering of the state of emergency was not retained as an option, for the moment. Several voices on the right and on the far right had however demanded the establishment of this exceptional regime, which had notably been declared during the riots of 2005.
On the other hand, a total of 40,000 police and gendarmes, including 5,000 in Paris and the inner suburbs, will be mobilized this Thursday evening to deal with any new violence, said Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin. That’s four times more than the night before.
Elisabeth Borne cancels a trip
“The next few hours must first lead to meditation, to respect,” Emmanuel Macron declared earlier, before adding: “the white march [prévue à 14 heures à Nanterre devant la préfecture des Hauts-de-Seine] must be done under this sign”.
This night, several fires targeted town halls, including those of Ile-Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis) or Garges-lès-Gonesse (Val-d’Oise). “Town halls, schools and police stations” were “burned or attacked”, wrote Gérald Darmanin, on his Twitter account. “Shame on those who did not call for calm,” he added.
Violence once morest police stations, schools, town halls, once morest the Republic, is unjustifiable.
Thank you to the police, gendarmes, firefighters and elected officials mobilized.
Meditation, Justice and calm must guide the next few hours.

For her part, Elisabeth Borne canceled her planned trip to La Roche-sur-Yon this Thursday morning because of “tensions (which) are mobilizing the full attention of the government”. The “non-priority” trips of ministers scheduled for Thursday are also postponed.
150 people were arrested
Last night, the incidents did not only concern Ile-de-France. A fire, probably linked to fireworks mortar fire, also occurred in a building in Villeurbanne, causing four minor injuries.
The Rhône prefecture also announced that four people had been arrested and around fifteen people injured in the police during incidents in Lyon where a “very mobile device” had been set up to follow the groups. from one neighborhood to another.
Fires were also noted in Tourcoing, Evreux, or even Rouen. A total of 150 people were arrested, announced Gérald Darmanin.
