Morocco condemned an “offensive and irresponsible” act and recalled its ambassador to Sweden following a copy of the Koran was burned in Stockholm, according to an official statement published overnight from Wednesday to Thursday.

“The Swedish government, once once more, authorized a demonstration which took place today (Wednesday), during which the Holy Koran was burned in front of a mosque in Stockholm”, regrets the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “This new offensive and irresponsible act ignores the feelings of more than a billion Muslims, in this sacred time of the great pilgrimage to Mecca and the blessed feast of the Adha festival,” he laments. “Faced with these repetitive provocations, committed under the complacent gaze of the Swedish government”, and on the instructions of King Mohammed VI, the Swedish charge d’affaires in Rabat was summoned to the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday. “During this summons, he was served with the strongest condemnation by the Kingdom of Morocco of this offense and the rejection of this inadmissible act”, it is specified.
