Liver is one of the favorite meat desserts for many people on Eid Al-Adha, and the reason is due to its delicious taste and high nutritional value.

Despite the benefits of liver for the body, there are groups that are completely prohibited from eating it due to medical considerations, according to Dr. Marwa Ibrahim, a clinical nutritionist.

1- Heart patients

Marwa said that it is better for heart patients to completely stay away from liver, because it contains a percentage of saturated fats, which cause high blood cholesterol.

2- Cholesterol patients

The nutritionist added that the liver poses a great danger to cholesterol patients, due to its high fat content, as it puts them at risk of clogged arteries.

3- Kidney patients

She stressed that the diet of kidney patients on Eid al-Adha should be free of meat sweets, especially liver, because its high protein content increases the risk of kidney failure.

4- Patients with gout

Marwa recommended gout patients avoid liver, because it is one of the foods that cause high uric acid in the blood, which leads to increased inflammation of the big toe joint in the foot following eating it.

5- Pregnant women

She explained that the liver is one of the foods that are forbidden to be eaten during pregnancy, because it contains a high percentage of vitamin A, which threatens the fetus with congenital deformities, if its levels rise in the mother’s body.

While healthy people, she pointed to the multiplicity of benefits that the liver provides to their health, such as strengthening the immune system, preventing anemia, building and strengthening muscles, and enhancing brain functions.

She concluded her speech by emphasizing the need to eat grilled liver, because frying it in oil or ghee gives it more trans fats, with the necessity of consuming it alongside vegetables and a little bread.
