Building on the success of the first two editions, “Children’s Day”, organized by dynamic members of the Jewish community of Agadir, returned this Sunday, June 25 to the medina of Coco Polizzi.
“This edition has shed more light on the infinite need for love of orphaned children and more generally on underprivileged childhood. We also hope that it will have contributed to strengthening the spirit of mutual aid between the Jewish and Muslim communities.” says Nissim Samuel Kakon, co-initiator, with Michael Sicsu, of this event.
Nissim Samuel Kakon, an entrepreneur from Essaouira, hopes that this solidarity action will encourage other civil society actors and economic operators to organize similar events across the Kingdom. Entirely dedicated to orphans and underprivileged children of Agadir and its region, this giant anniversary saw the participation of more than 200 children aged 5 to 12, including the children of artisans in the medina.
The day started at 10 a.m. After welcoming the guests to the sound of percussion from a batucada troupe and distributing T-shirts in the colors of the event, the participants sang the national anthem on the stands of the Roman theatre. The little guests then enjoyed a guided tour of the medina. This didactic visit was followed by various workshops (make-up, making handicrafts, table tennis, badminton, hopscotch, etc.) led by volunteers.
A lunch was then served on site to the participants. Throughout the day, a DJ provided musical entertainment while many distractions were offered to children, including a magician and clown show as well as a puppet show. Two pinatas filled with 40 kilos of candy each were then opened to the delight of the little guests.
“Children’s Day” ended at 5 p.m. with the tasting of two large cakes topped with 200 candles. Each child finally left with an individual gift…and a big smile. “We have been organizing this event for three years now to convey a message of shalom and peace. It is a message of love to our precious Morocco, to which we would modestly like to give back a little of everything it gives us”, concludes Michael Sicsu on this subject. “Children’s Day”, which has benefited from the approval of local authorities and the support of corporate sponsors, will also be organized this summer in Essaouira and Taroudant.
