Medical sources confirmed to Agence France-Presse, yesterday, Wednesday, that the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper, Sergio Rico, woke up from a long coma that lasted for regarding a month, and had already communicated with his family members.

The Spanish goalkeeper has been in a coma since May 28, following he was transferred to Virgen del Rocio Hospital, following a serious accident he suffered at a local festival in Spain.

Sergio Rico suffered a brain injury following falling from the horse, as a result of which he fell into a coma for a month, amid expectations of his memory loss or worse, his death.

But his wife, Alba Silva, said last Monday that he was able to identify his family members and pronounce their names.

“Rico has come out of his coma, he has seen the light,” Alba Silva told local media.

The Rico case occupied the French sports street, especially the fans of Paris Saint-Germain, who supported his family in this ordeal by publishing his name and picture in the stands of the Princes Park stadium during the closing rounds of the French League.

The goalkeeper, who was transferred on loan in 2019 to the ranks of Paris Saint-Germain, won two European League titles with his hometown team, Seville, and signed a permanent contract with the Parisian club in 2020 following his success during his loan period.

Rico participated with Paris in 13 matches in the French League due to the intense competition for the goalkeeper of Paris Saint-Germain with Costa Rican Keylor Navas and Italian Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The second half of the 2021/2022 season witnessed Sergio Rico joining Real Mallorca on loan, to defend his colors in 14 matches as a starter in La Liga competitions, in addition to one match in the King’s Cup of Spain.
