Zootopique: Exploring the Impact of Climate Change on Emerging Diseases

2023-06-28 20:06:51

“Zootopique” is a series of podcasts produced in partnership with ANSES (National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety) which examines our relationships with animals through the prism of health. After a first season covering themes as varied as the decline of bees or diseases carried by mosquitoes and ticks, we are offering a second season.

For this last episode of the season, let’s take a look at these tropical diseases that end up acclimatizing and developing in our territory due to climate change. For example, in 2022, 65 cases of autochthonous dengue were recorded in the south of France.

Other human or animal diseases will emerge in the future. So what diseases are we talking regarding? Is climate change really the only factor involved? How to deal with these new threats?

With Stéphan Zientara, veterinarian and virologist, director of the joint research unit Anses-Inrae-Maisons-Alfort Veterinary School and Éric Cardinale, veterinarian specializing in the fields of microbiology and epidemiology, deputy director of the Unit joint ASTRE CIRAD-Inrae research project.
