Weana G’schichtn, G’stanzln and “foolish dance” of the finest and worst, from the noble establishment and the rough suburbs from three centuries, pointedly staged by the “Gugelhupf Ensemble” can be heard on Tuesday, July 4th in the castle cellar .
The variety ranges from Gerhard Bronner, Helmut Qualtinger and Georg Kreisler, from Hermann Leopoldi, Ludwig Gruber and Hugo Wiener, as well as from Pirron & Knapp, the songs of the Viennese underworld to Roland Neuwirth and Heli Deinböck.
The style is not characterized by the classic Schrammel sound, but the unconventional line-up makes an evening with the Guglhupf Ensemble an unforgettable experience: the tuba as bass, the cello gives the whole thing the fine line and the guitar nestles into the overall sound with ingenious solos. Plus two singers whose interpretations are fun, with wit, poetry and heart.
Incidentally, the name of the ensemble does not come from the baked goods but from the “Narrenturm” of the old Vienna General Hospital.
