The Vegas Golden Knights traded Reilly Smith to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a 2024 third-round pick on Wednesday.
The 32-year-old forward has two more seasons to go on the three-year, $5 million avg deal he signed with Vegas on July 13.
Smith has 56 points (26 goals, 30 assists) in 78 games this season, his sixth in the Golden Knights organization. He was one of the six original members – dubbed the ‘Misfits’, in English – of the squad which came into existence in 2017-18 during the expansion.
He added 14 points (four goals, 10 assists) in 22 playoff games during Vegas’ run to the Stanley Cup.
Selected by the Dallas Stars in the third round (69th overall) in the 2009 draft, Smith has 473 points (200 goals, 273 assists) in 764 regular season games with the Golden Knights, Florida Panthers, Bruins of Boston and the Stars. He also had 79 points (26 goals, 53 assists in 106 playoff games.
Smith ranks third in Vegas history in points (286), second in goals (124) and fourth in games played (399). He appeared in all 88 playoff games in team history, along with frequent linemates William Karlsson and Jonathan Marchessault. Smith was acquired in a trade with the Panthers on June 21, 2017, a deal that assured the Panthers that the Golden Knights would select Marchessault in the expansion draft.
