In Valais, the apricot harvest promises to be scarce this year due in particular to a rainy spring. But the quality of the fruit will be there, boasts the Valais Fruit and Vegetable Interprofession (IFELV).

“With an expected volume of 5,400 tonnes, the 2023 harvest is below the average of the last ten years, which amounts to 7,700 tonnes”, detailed Wednesday the secretary general of IFELV Olivier Borgeat in a press release. “However, we remain positive since the quality of the apricots looks good,” he adds.

After a record year in 2022, the weather conditions were not as kind in 2023. The rainy climate this spring slowed down pollination and favored diseases such as flower moniliosis, which particularly affects apricot producers. organic, specifies the IFELV. The orchards also suffered a winter frost in January, which came soon following the mild temperatures of December.
