The Fund for the Development of Wine Tourism (FDE) in Argentina approved the distribution of $210.9 million among 102 projects for investment in infrastructure, goods and services that allow to promote their tourist services or open up to wine tourism in the country.

The initiative is financed by the Ministry of Economy through the National Agroindustry Trust Fund (Fondagro) of the Ministry of Agriculture and articulated between the Ministry of Tourism and the Argentine Wine Corporation (Coviar).

The FDE was launched at the end of April with the signature of the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, the Secretary of Agriculture, Juan José Bahillo, and the President of Coviar, Mario González.

The first FDE disbursements to promote the activity will begin shortly while another 55 projects are analyzed.

At the moment they were presented and approved 102 projects that will receive an average of non-reimbursable contributions of $2 million each to promote the qualitative and quantitative improvement of wine tourism services, as well as the infrastructure of the areas where the tourist experience takes place.

The FDE seeks to generate tools for the promotion and development of the sector as a whole and of wine tourism ventures, current or future, that encourage with their actions and activities the optimization of human resources, training and technological support.

The call was divided between the projects that are already open to tourism, that they had to present initiatives that imply investments and improvements in their infrastructure and services, and the projects that are not open to tourism but that did want to start offering these services.

“For us, wine tourism is very important, not only because in recent years it has been the protagonist of tourism in Argentina, but mainly because it meets several strategic objectives of viticulture.”

Pablo Asens, vice president of Coviar.

New and future wine tourism establishments, whether wineries or farms, were first trained and guided in the process of putting together a business plan to then move on to specific projects.

FDE with federal imprint

The FDE has a strong federal imprint, so wineries and wine producers who presented projects from Mendoza, San Juan, Neuquén, La Rioja, Salta, Jujuy, Entre Ríos, La Pampa, Córdoba, Chubut, Tucumán, Río Negro, Córdoba and Catamarca benefited.

At the same time, The development of wine tourism is one of the axes of the Vitivinícola Strategic Plan (PEVI) in its update to 2030.

There are approximately 380 wineries open to tourism, installed in 17 provinces of the country, which shows a growth in activity in the last three years, since in 2020 there were 14 provinces and 200 wineries dedicated to wine tourism.

Disbursements will begin in the coming days and another 55 projects are being reviewed for approval.

“For us, wine tourism is very important, not only because in recent years it has been the protagonist of tourism in Argentina, but mainly because it meets several strategic objectives of viticulture,” said Pablo Asens, vice president of Coviar, in charge of the executing unit of Wine Tourism.
