After his bowel operation on June 7th, Pope Francis led the general audience in St. Peter’s Square. Francis showed himself to be in good shape and greeted the faithful in the square from the popemobile, in which some children were also seated. The last general audience had taken place on the day of the operation itself. After that, Francis had gone to the Gemelli Hospital.
During the general audience, the Pope thanked the faithful who, despite the heat, were waiting for him in St. Peter’s Square. He commemorated all those suffering from the Ukraine conflict. “People suffer a lot in Ukraine, we mustn’t forget that,” said the pontiff.
The last general audience before the summer break took place on Wednesday. According to tradition, the general audiences in July are cancelled. The next such event, which is freely accessible to all believers with a counting card, will take place on August 9th. Before that, the Pope travels to Lisbon for World Youth Day.
