In Soviet cinema, surprisingly “non-Soviet” cars.
The painting “Amphibian Man” will amaze any car lover to the core. The fact is that there is not a single Soviet car in the film. It’s amazing how the team managed to find such a fleet on a tiny budget.
According to the plot, the film takes place in Buenos Aires, so it was impossible to shoot Soviet cars in it. Even experts do not undertake to determine the brands of cars that were present in the frame. But, apparently, Opel Kapitan and Land Cruiser first appear in the frame, and journalist Olsen rides a Czech motorcycle JAWA 350.
Later, when Ichthyander goes in search of Gutierre, a completely rare car appears on the screen – Horch 930 V Cabriolet. This model was released in the amount of only 2 thousand copies. She is accompanied by Opel Kapitan, Skoda 1201, ÖAF 745G.
How the film crew managed to get hold of all these cars is anyone’s guess. Presumably, many of them might have been captured, others were supplied to the USSR under Lend-Lease or as reparations following World War II. Directors Vladimir Chebotarev and Gennady Khazansky never shared their secrets. But even the most experienced and wealthy collector can envy such a fleet.
