Why Aston Martin won’t copy RBR’s floor plan
The Aston Martin F1 team believes it would be a mistake to focus too much on Red Bull Racing’s recently exposed chassis at the Monte Carlo circuit, and that it would be better to stick to its own concept.
When Sergio Perez crashed himself at Turn 1 during qualifying on the weekend of the Monaco GP, the crane operator hoisted his RB19 high above the track in order to remove it from the track. Light, to the surprise of the world champion team’s competitors.
They all conduct an in-depth analysis of Red Bull’s design, trying to fully understand why the opponent can dominate the situation so much. However, while some teams may try to emulate some of the principles of the Red Bull chassis in search of better performance, Aston Martin is skeptical that doing so will not necessarily bring any benefit.
In fact, Dan Fallows, technical director of Aston Martin team, believes that the optimization in this area is very careful, and some small changes may not be suitable for every car, which is why he believes that Aston Martin team must stick to its own design. The reason for what matters.

Fallows explained: “We have our own philosophy and way of doing things, and there is indeed a lot of room for optimization in aspects such as the bottom plate. The details you see on the surface are optimized by us with a lot of effort. Results. So it was very important for us to stick to our own development path.”
“We think our route offers a lot of potential and we have another upgrade (in Canada), so it’s very important for us to keep going.”
While the exposure of the Red Bull racing floor may not prompt Aston Martin to make any specific design changes, there is still some value in being able to see the design of the championship leader’s underbody.
Asked by Motorsport.com if there were any surprises, Fallows said: “No, but I think it’s always interesting to see what other people have done.”
“From an aerodynamic point of view, everyone is facing the same problem, and it’s interesting to see what other people have solved, so I don’t think it’s a surprise, it’s more of a fun thing.”
The Aston Martin team has introduced a rather significant upgrade at the Canadian GP, which includes a modified chassis. But Fallows said that although the adjustments this time seem to be a big change, they actually had the same level of improvement earlier, but it was not so visible.
He went on to add: “It’s a very significant upgrade from the looks of it, but in fact the improvements we’ve done on the car so far are just as important.”
“What we are committed to is constantly improving the car, rather than waiting for a few races to introduce major upgrades. Although cosmetically, the upgrades that we hope to take a step forward this time are the most obvious, but in terms of performance It may not necessarily be the greatest in terms of enhancement.”
