A survey by the Digital Citizens Alliance warns of the dangers of subscribing to an IPTV service. In particular, on the risk incurred by consumers regarding the transmission of their banking information.

Obviously, this is not surprising. The offers offered are generally cheap and very well supplied. However, the Digital Citizens Alliance (DCA) recently looked into the dark side of these services. IPTV is on the rise and that means increasing risks for consumers. Remember, these services distribute content without the consent of the rights holders. In reality, it is more complicated.
Surprise fees
As the Digital Citizens Alliance points out, this activity interests individuals of all kinds. Including people willing to use your bank details. For its study, the DCA also lent itself to the game of subscriptions with a bank card generated for the occasion. Investigators have subscribed to regarding twenty services, the names of which are displayed in the reportand waited.
Result: a few weeks following the subscriptions, the costs of dubious origin multiplied. Coming, in particular, from China, Hong Kong, or even Lithuania. In total, nearly $1,495 flew away.
Of course, these cases are not representative of all IPTV services. Most of these organizations even adopt a traditional business model, if the term can be applied to a pirate service. Nevertheless, it is indeed a wake-up call.
It’s also worth mentioning that the Digital Citizens Alliance surveyed just over 2,300 Americans for further research. Of the 10% of them who admit having already subscribed to an IPTV, 72% have been victims of “surprise” costs. Something to think twice regarding before subscribing to these illegal services.
