The Verviers Criminal Court sentenced a 41-year-old father to 12 years in prison. This sentence is accompanied by a release to the sentence enforcement court for a period of 5 years.
The 40-year-old was found guilty of daily rapes committed, for five years, on his daughter. The child was only seven years old when the first facts were committed.
The child had confided, by SMS, last March to her mother, telling her of the ordeal she was going through with her father. Distraught, the mother of the family had opened up to her own father who then took the steps to trigger legal action.
If at first the suspect had denied the facts, calling his daughter a liar, he had recognized them in court, where he had admitted “to being in love with his daughter”. Surprising statements that had raised eyebrows the public prosecutor who demanded a heavy sentence.
The defendant, he believed that he is not a pedophile. “I am not attracted to children. Only my daughter obsessed me. I made a mistake and I must be punished for it. I am aware of what I have done but I can not help it anymore change,” he said.
A line of defense which did not convince the court which considered that all the prejudices were established.
