A little over a year ago, the City and its partners opened a Year of Denmark in Cahors at the Grand Palais cinema with the screening of the film Wild Men. A year later, the time to take stock has arrived. The success has been at the rendezvous of the various stages of this exceptional program, thanks to the mobilization of the services of the City and Greater Cahors, which several associations and partners have joined, between the spring of 2022 and the spring of 2023. This was the opportunity to discover Denmark under different facets. To close this Franco-Danish program, the City proposes to return to the Grand Palais cinema on Wednesday June 28. This session will allow you to see (or re-watch) the film A Royal Affair by Danish director Nikolaj Arcel, released in 2012. This film tells part of the history of Denmark, at the end of the 18th century, through a trio of characters real, King Christian VII, considered mad, his wife Caroline Mathilde and the German doctor Johann Struensee, who was called to the king’s bedside and who brought with him somewhat revolutionary ideas for the country at the time. This film stars Mads Mikkelsen, Alicia Vikander and Mikkel Boe Folsgaard. A Royal Affair has been recognized by the film community: Silver Bear for Best Screenplay Berlinale 2012, Silver Bear for Best Actor Berlinale 2012 for Mikkel Boe Følsgaard, Oscar nominee in the category Best Foreign Language Film 2013 and nominated at the Golden Globes in the category best foreign film 2013. After the screening, discussions will continue around the historical period regarding which the film speaks, with a glass of friendship.
