If Louis-Jean Cormier has one piece of advice to give to Karkwa fans who are delighted with the group’s return following a break decreed in 2012, it’s to enjoy it while it passes.
“The initial game plan is really ephemeral. It’s very condensed. I tell everyone to enjoy it. Don’t wait too long because it will pass quickly,” said Louis-Jean Cormier last week during an interview with The newspaper on the sidelines of the National Day show on the Plains of Abraham, in Quebec.
On September 8, Karkwa will release a new album with an as yet unknown title, his first since the release of the acclaimed The glass pathsin 2010.
A first extract accompanied by a music video featuring Pascale Bussières, the song Perfect on screen was unveiled on May 17, along with the dates for a 19-concert fall tour of Quebec, Belgium, France and Toronto.
It all started with Louis-Jean and François
According to Louis-Jean Cormier, the project to resuscitate Karkwa dates back to the recording of his last two solo albums, in which François Lafontaine took part.
“I had had so much fun when he appeared at the end of the process of When the night falls that I asked him to do The sky is on the floor ensemble.»
The two friends were then experiencing great emotions in their personal lives. Louis-Jean Cormier’s dad had just died and François Lafontaine’s mom was sick.
“We did almost 200 concerts together and that’s when we thought it might be fun to come back with Karkwa. Very early in the process, the Karkwa guys were up for it and we worked on an album.
“The Jell-O caught on pretty quickly”
According to Louis-Jean Cormier, the current “passes power 1000” between the five original members of the alternative rock formation completed by Julien Sagot, Martin Lamontagne and Stéphane Bergeron.
“We were curious to see what our mix, which has always been special because we are all different, would give 13 years later with the maturity, with the profession, with the experience that we have all taken in our careers. respective.”
Since the end of the group, all the members of Karkwa had continued to make music, with the exception of Martin Lamontagne, who traded the stage for construction sites.
“He picked up his bass like he never stopped playing. He was really really good. All I can say is that the Jell-O caught on pretty quickly,” ignites Louis-Jean Cormier.
