• Created in 2007 and made compulsory in May 2020, the early prenatal interview (EPP) is the 1st key moment in the course of the child’s first 1000 days.
• It is an important appointment and a privileged time for discussing the beginning of pregnancy, 100% covered by Health Insurance.
• Support for its deployment throughout the national territory is a measure of the interministerial project of the “first 1000 days of the child” and is monitored within the framework of the Government’s Priority Policies.
The early prenatal interview allows the woman, as soon as she declares her pregnancy, to meet alone or as a couple with a midwife or a doctor, whether in private practice, in a PMI center or in the maternity ward.
Its purpose is to enable the healthcare professional to assess with the pregnant woman or with the couple the support needs during the pregnancy. It takes into account the psychological and emotional dimension, as well as the social environment of pregnancy.
This is an interview of listening and sharing. No physical examination is performed. Indeed, it is not a question of a medical consultation.
For future parentsthis interview allows you to better understand all the steps of your pregnancy, to ask all your questions, to express your wishes, to remove your doubts. It aims to ensure the arrival of your baby in the best conditions and to build a bond of trust with the professionals around you.
For professionalsit is take the time to better understand the needs parents by opening the dialogue, to identify weaknesses and vulnerability factors, to adjust the responses and the follow-up according to the needs and difficulties identified, taking into account the professionals already involved, to propose local resources to best carry out the birth plan, anticipating ante-postnatal continuity. The content of this interview was the subject of recommendations from the Haute Autorité de Santé (HAS) in 2005 [1] et 2009 [2].
In 2022, 62% of pregnant women benefited from an early prenatal interview [3].
