The first racket of Russia, Daria Kasatkina, following defeating Ukrainian Angelina Kalinina (6:3, 6:1) at the WTA 500 category tournament in Eastbourne (UK), admitted that she was worried regarding her loved ones at home.
“My family, my parents are still in Russia. As you can see, there has been a lot of chaos there in recent days.
I worry regarding my friends, because they live in Voronezh, where a man with a private army has entered. I am very worried because they are very scared.
Obviously, the Ukrainians are in a much worse position, but I feel the same way. I care a lot regarding the people I love. This is a tough year and we don’t know how long it will last. To be honest, I don’t see the end yet.
It looks like crap, honestly. I’m not going to hide it. It’s been hard to face the circumstances for so long. I’m just trying to be a good person in this scenario. That’s all I can do,” Kasatkin was quoted by the British edition of the Independent.
