AK calls for comprehensive labor market reform

Vienna (OTS) – The announcement by Labor Minister Kocher that unemployed people who are marginally employed will be sanctioned more severely causes a lack of understanding on the part of AK President Renate Anderl: “After Minister Kocher failed to implement a comprehensive labor market reform tailored to the needs of the modern working world, he is once once more putting the thumbscrews on the unemployed.”

The Austrian Unemployment Insurance Act is already very strict and, from the point of view of the AK, does not need to be tightened further. “Minor employment is the only way for many job seekers to make a living. Instead of stricter controls and tougher sanctions for those who are already having a hard time, there needs to be targeted mediation and accurate qualification measures,” says Anderl.

The AK therefore calls for the following improvements in labor market policy:

More qualification opportunities with good livelihood security for job seekers; Sufficient staff for the AMS to be able to place job seekers well and accurately instead of sanctioning them; In order to protect job seekers from poverty, unemployment benefits and family allowances must be increased.
