Our compatriot dreamed of visiting Africa for a very long time. For a long period of time, the girl thought regarding South Africa, but she was stopped by all sorts of horror stories from the category: “… Don’t go, children, to walk in Africa, … in Africa there is a terrible Barmaley.” However, the passion for travel and learning something new turned out to be stronger than fears and doubts.

So, the Russian woman went to South Africa for the holidays. What came out of this girl told on my blog on the Zen platform.

Upon arrival (precisely in the first days), the tourist was afraid to get her phone out of her backpack, even in a safe area. According to her, she constantly looked around and saw a criminal type in every beggar or “black”.

“..When a homeless man wanted to help me cross the street, namely to stop the movement of cars, I saw him as a potential robber, although he said the word “I am friend“…” several times– recalls the girl.

After a few days, the unhealthy fear passed, and she began to settle in.

During the day, as the Russian woman noted, everyone calmly moves along the street. There are a lot of policemen in Cape Town. Near each hotel, restaurant, shop there was a security guard.

As in any corner of the world, unpleasant things and crimes happen in South Africa, but if you follow certain rules of behavior, then everything will be in order.

So, the rules themselves, which the girl deduced:

Here they don’t go to the mountains one by one, because bad guys often wait there. You need to take full insurance for a rented car, which also covers car theft. You shouldn’t go alone at night, especially when drunk. You need to call a taxi only through the official application, such as Uber, etc. You should not go to the “black quarters” (townships) alone, only with a professional guide from the locals. You need to close the car when you are in it. There have been cases when a phone was stolen from the hands of a car passenger. You can’t leave expensive things in the car when you go far.
