Vienna (OTS/SPW) – A colorful fireworks display of music and leisure fun for everyone was also on the festival Sunday on June 25, 2023 – the great audience, who celebrated the most peaceful coexistence with free admission on all three festival days, was given a fitting farewell. Acts such as Michael Patrick Kelly, Silbermond, Leony, H-Blockx, Royal Republic, Spider Murphy Gang, Simone & Charly Brunner, Joyce Muniz, DJane Mel Merio, Birgit Denk Trio, Gerald Fleischhacker and others danced, sang, celebrated and laughed together Gernot Kulis. In the Bank Austria / radio 88.6 Rock stage A world record was also broken on Sunday: the biggest rock band in the world brought the Donauinsel to the Danube Island as part of the 88.6 Rocktogether during the performance of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman”.
Barbara Novak, state party secretary of the SPÖ Vienna: “Today marks the end of the 40th Danube Island Festival with brilliant visitor numbers. I am incredibly proud of this celebration of diversity and strong solidarity, which is taking place in the middle of our livable and lovable Vienna. It’s great how many artists might be brought in front of the curtain. The Danube Island Festival has been with me since my childhood and every year I am enthusiastic regarding the peaceful coexistence and solidarity of the Viennese and everyone who loves Vienna. They are an essential guarantor for the very special island atmosphere and the solidarity among each other, which is very important on the Danube Island and throughout Vienna. I would like to thank everyone involved for their tireless efforts – you are doing a great job and I am already looking forward to the Donauinselfest 2024.”
On the Sunday of the festival, City Councilor for Health and Social Affairs Peter Hacker also visited the Danube Island Festival with tours of the Wiener Städtische Versicherung / Safe Vienna Island and the World of Work Island at the Danube Island Festival.
Participate and celebrate with us on the festival Sunday
The diverse supporting program on #dif23 Sunday, which is spread across the entire 4.5 kilometer long festival site, started at 10:00 a.m. With sunshine and hot temperatures, countless visitors* across all age groups were out and regarding and visited, among other things, the demonstrations at the Wiener Städtische Versicherung / Sicherheiten Wien Insel and the stands bursting with creativity at the Bank Austria Edelstoff pop-up design market. For example, visitors received information and advice on topics such as inflation or job prospects in the two Wien Holding recruiting islands and on the consulting island powered by Wien Holding. Lots of movement and hands-on stations were also part of the Donauinselfest program in many places, including on the OKIDOKI Kinderfreunde Insel, at the dance workshops of the Kopetzky dance school, at Yoga by AuroraYoga and at the midday disco training powered by HEUTE-die Tageszeitung on the OBI / kronehit Electronic Music stage.
Matthias Friedrich, Managing Director Pro Event Team for Vienna and project manager of the Danube Island Festival: “I am very pleased that we were able to say goodbye to this special anniversary festival, this greatest peaceful togetherness with free entry for everyone, in the best weather. On the festival Sunday, we were able to offer countless visitors a colorful program consisting of music, design, sports, consulting and recruiting from morning until evening, which was extremely well received. My thanks go to the entire Donauinselfest family, who brought this 40th Donauinselfest to a brilliant conclusion today.”
