Comparing Unemployment Rates: Luxembourg Province vs. Wallonia

The unemployment rate is lower in the province of Luxembourg than in Wallonia and has even been declining since 2014. In 2019, the district of Virton is doing best, neck and neck with Neufchâteau.

That of Marche has the highest rate in the province. We note a rise in the unemployment rate for the arrondissement of Arlon since 2018.

Compared to the other Walloon provinces, it is obvious that Luxembourg has the lowest unemployment rate for 20-64 year olds, with 5.6% in 2021.

Unemployment rate down

Although often close to the province of Walloon Brabant since 2010, our province has stood out since 2019. Conversely, the unemployment rates of Hainaut and Liège are the highest in Wallonia with 10.3% and 9.4% respectively. % in 2021.

Note also the sharp decreases in the unemployment rate for all provinces between 2013 and 2015. Sudden increases affect all provinces in 2019 or 2020, with the possible exception of the province of Luxembourg.

Generally speaking, the unemployment rate is down in Wallonia. In descending order, we find: the province of Hainaut (-26%), Luxembourg (-25%), Namur (-21%), and the provinces of Liège and Walloon Brabant (both -18%).
