According to the current asylum statistics, the number of asylum seekers continues to decline – the asylum brake is tightened further
Vienna (OTS) – “Interior Minister Gerhard Karner is doing what the radicalized FPÖ chairman Herbert Kickl has never been able to do in this function – namely to reduce the number of asylum seekers in the long term. Contrary to all of Kickl’s claims, it is crystal clear: The only number that is increasing is that of deportations”, the General Secretary of the People’s Party, Christian Stocker, reacts to Herbert Kickl’s claims today and continues: “If you look at the month of comparison May 2022, we see a drop in asylum applications of around 28 percent. The comparison also makes the overall balance clear: the number of asylum applications in the first five months this year fell by 20 percent compared to the previous year. The measures taken by the Minister of the Interior are taking full effect here and the asylum brake is being tightened further. And that is due to the bundle of measures, and these include not only the consistent fight once morest people smugglers and the border area and border point controls by the Ministry of the Interior, but also international cooperation and the accelerated asylum procedures – all milestones that Interior Minister Karner set in motion,” concludes stockers
