According to information from British intelligence services, the Ukrainian armed forces have made “gradual but steady tactical progress” during their offensive. The British Ministry of Defense reported on Sunday that the units had regrouped in recent days and conducted major offensive operations in the east and south of the country.
For this they used experiences from the first two weeks of the counter-offensive to refine their tactics for the attacks on the well-prepared Russian defenses. For their part, Russian forces had made “considerable efforts” for an attack near the city of Kreminna in the eastern Ukrainian region of Luhansk. “This probably reflects the ongoing instructions from the Russian leadership to go on the offensive whenever possible,” the British ministry commented. “Russia made some small advances, but Ukrainian forces prevented a breakthrough.”
Ukrainian forces liberated an area near Krasnogorovka, west of Russian-held central Donetsk, over the weekend, according to Oleksandr Tarnavsky, Ukraine’s southern front commander. According to the commander, the area had previously been under Russian control since Moscow-backed separatists seized it in 2014. A Russian statement was initially not available.
Also, according to Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar, the Ukrainian army launched an offensive near a group of villages around Bakhmut. The information cannot be independently verified.
