Vekic beat Maria Sakkari Six-Four-Seven-Six (8) in her semi-final following Elena Avanesyan defeated Six-Two-Seven-Six (0) in her quarter-final match that had been postponed due to rain.

Friday’s match at a green stadium in Berlin was postponed due to rain to Saturday.

Sixth seed Sakkari defeated Marketa Vondrousova seven-six (7) and six-one, but later might not defeat Vekic’s insistence in the semi-finals. The Croatian 23rd seed had her fourth match point to win following two hours and 16 minutes and advance to her second final of the season. This is their first match on a green field in four years.

Kvitova defeated Caroline García Six-Four-Seven-Six (3) and then ended Ekaterina Alexandrova’s seven-match winning streak in a row with a six-three and six-four semi-final win to advance to the 42nd final of her career.

Alexandrova was the only one of the four players in the semi-finals who did not play twice following her Russian companion Veronika Kudermitova withdrew from the quarter-finals due to a left thigh injury.
