In the Faculty of Medicine of the UAdeC, more than 1,500 young people take the exam but only receive 120 of those who pass. Years ago, both in the Lagunera Region of Coahuila and Durango, the The only public educational institutions with a medical degree were the Autonomous University of Coahuila and the Juárez University of the State of Durango (UJED), but today, it is also offered privately by the Autonomous University of Durango, on its Torreón and Gómez Palacio campuses.

The Medicine career is highly demanding in which very few manage to enter, since the demand is quite high and the fact that other institutions in the entity already offer it, in this case at a private level, seems to be favorable.

In the case of the Faculty of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Coahuila each year more than 1500 young people take an exam to enter school but you can only receive 120. Sandra López Chavarría, in charge of the Torreón unit coordination, said that the number of people is reduced to that number, since medicine is the career with the highest demand in the entire university and the one with the narrowest filter, since the installed capacity is insufficient to receive all those who aspire to be doctors.

He indicated that the process to enter the career for new admission has already been concluded, so by February of next year, those who want to try it, must take out a file once more, “they have a pre-medical course, but it is optional although ideally they are in constant preparation.

The 120 new students start this career in August, which is from 5 years to later go to boarding school and later to social service.

At UJED they only give opportunity to 84 students per semester

Gerardo Ávila, academic secretary of the Faculty of Medicine of the Juárez University of the State of Durango (UJED), reported that for the medical degree they are usually issued between 700 to 900 tokens but only 84 new students are received.

They enter their first semester in August, which is the first group, since there is a group of 84 other students who remain doing a preparatory course that they will enter in the 2024 semester.

“It has been the zero semester and those who go directly, the 84, enter what is the B semester of 2023. If you add the two groups of students, we can say that up to 168 of a maximum 900 applicants are received, which What happens is that cards are issued for both the Psychology and Nutrition careers, but the greatest demand is for the Medicine career.

The number of people who acquire a medical card can vary, but it fluctuates between 700 and 900 people who request a card each year.

“But due to the installed capacity of our laboratories, classrooms and the internship and social service places provided by the Ministry of Health, IMSS, ISSSTE and other government bodies, that is why the income is reduced to 84”.

Applicants who did not pass the admission exam at these first two universities have the option of studying at the Autonomous University of Durango, both at the Gómez Palacio Campus and at the Torreón Campus.

The Faculty of Medicine of the UAD Torreón campus, It has an enrollment of just over 500 students, who also have a campus equipped with laboratories and academic quality that meets the requirements.
