A beautiful bike is as much a status symbol today as an expensive car was once. At least that’s what the organizers of the Style Ride, which has been taking place in Zurich every year since 2011, say. On Saturday, around 110 smartly dressed people rolled through Zurich on polished two-wheelers.
The number 110 is what organizer Jeroen van Rooijen wheezes on the phone. He had just arrived at the steepest part of the route on Scheuchzerstrasse in District 6. He was particularly struck by an amphibious bicycle camper this year. With this bike, cyclists can travel and live both on water and on land.

The Style Ride is not a political event. “Instead of street fighting, we rely on the connecting power of beauty,” it says. There is no dress code. The only criterion for participation: a bicycle without a combustion engine.

At the Style Ride there were also many unique items to admire. For example André Schwyn’s bicycle, which Jacques Mercet designed in 1987. The well-known Lausanne frame builder manufactured its bikes in consultation with the customers and created unique and expensive design creations.

Some people took part in the Style Ride for the first time and were happy regarding the large variety of self-built and renovated bikes. Others regularly take part in special cycle races, such as Adriano and Liliane Grieder. This year they have already ridden a total of 6000 kilometers on different bicycles. Among other things, they took part in the “Eroica”, a historic bicycle race in Tuscany.
